If you own residential rental units built before 1950, you are obligated to comply with Title 6, Subtitle 8 of the Environment Article of the Maryland Code "Reduction of Lead Risk in Housing," also known as "HB 760." In brief, the law requires owners of residential rental property built before 1950 to register the property with the Maryland Department of the Environment (MDE) and to meet certain lead hazard risk reduction standards of care before the property is rented and upon each subsequent turnover. Failure to register or meet the standard of care subjects the owner to penalties and loss of liability protection.

For more information call the Maryland Department of the Environment Lead Rental Registry at 1-800-776-2706 in Maryland, (410) 537-4199 (local Baltimore Calls) or visit the website at mde.state.md.us
