HEALTHY START PROGRAM

"Pregnancy is an especially important time to maintain good healthy habits. After all, everything you do during pregnancy affects the baby in some way -- directly or indirectly."

Do you need help with:

  • signing up for your insurance?
  • choosing a doctor for yourself and your baby?
  • questions about your pregnancy?
  • transportation and housing?
  • obtaining baby clothes and other items?

We can help!

The Healthy Start Program is a free home visiting program at the Allegany County Health Department for pregnant women and infants up to 2 years of age with Health Choice Insurance. There are 5 nurses in Healthy Start that can follow pregnant women throughout their pregnancy and then also continue with the family until the infant is 2 years old.

We can also help with:

  • Signing up for your Managed Care Organization
  • Learning what your Health Choice Insurance covers
  • Finding help with transportation and housing
  • Information about your pregnancy
  • Information about child development
  • Choosing a doctor for you and your baby
  • Obtaining baby clothes and other items if needed
