Prevention is the sum of our efforts to ensure healthy, safe, and productive lives for all citizens in Allegany County. Prevention promotes constructive lifestyles that discourage drug abuse and promotes development of social environments that facilitate drug-free lifestyles. As applied to alcohol, tobacco, and other drugs (ATOD), prevention means keeping the many problems related to the use and abuse of these substances from occurring. An investment in prevention is a wise investment in the health and well-being of all our citizens.

The prevention unit is an integral part of the Addictions Unit in the " continuum of addictions services" at the Allegany County Health Department.
