S. Massie Unit
The Joseph S. Massie Unit's purpose is to provide comprehensive, high quality addictions treatment to people who are chemically dependent or abuse chemicals, and their significant others. We work cooperatively with our community in achieving our purpose. Joseph S. Massie Unit is a multi-modality treatment facility for adults experiencing the devastating effects of alcoholism and other chemical dependency. The length of stay is individualized. The unit determines placement using ASAM criteria. The unit applies a holistic treatment approach that completely addresses the issues necessary to an abstinent lifestyle.

weight training system ADMISSIONS AND REFERRALS Referrals for admission are accepted from employee assistance programs, hospitals, private physicians, counseling and community agencies, lawyers, legal/judicial system and others. Placement is determined using ASAM criteria. We provide transportation of the patient to and from the facility to the Western Maryland cities of Frederick Hagerstown and Oakland. contact the Health insurance generally covers the cost of treatment. Residents are charged fees based on their ability to pay if insurance coverage does not cover treatment. LOCATION The Massie Unit is located on the grounds of the Thomas B. Finan Center, Cottage 4. AFTERCARE Joseph S. Massie Unit believes that the treatment should continue after completion of our residential treatment program. An aftercare plan is developed with the resident and will include activities that result in ongoing recovery. These activities are based on the individualized need of the recovering person. Referrals are made to the appropriate outpatient agencies and follow-up is accomplished by Massie Unit staff at 3, 6, and 12 months after discharge.
